The small icon on the browser tab
This is the smallest item SEOPert reports and one of the quickest to fix. The favicon is the icon on the tab, in the bookmark list and in the history dropdown. Without one your site shows a blank sheet of paper, which reads as unfinished in a place people look dozens of times a day.

What this means
The favicon is the small icon on browser tabs and bookmarks. It makes your site look finished and helps people find your tab.
How to fix it
- Upload a square version of your logo as the site icon/favicon in your site settings.
On WordPress
- Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon.
On Shopify
- Online Store → Themes → Customize → Theme settings → Favicon.
On Wix
- Settings → Favicon (available on sites with a connected domain).
If you are handing this to a developer
Add <link rel="icon"> (and apple-touch-icon) in <head>.
Check it worked. Open the site in a new tab: your icon should show on the tab (clear the browser cache if it does not).
