Free keyword research tool

Find out what people type into Google.

Give it a topic. It asks Google Autocomplete around forty different ways, then sorts what comes back into questions, comparisons and long-tail phrases you can write for. Free, no account.

· Free · No account · No search volumes, and we say why below

How to use the list

Write for the phrase, not the keyword.

Every line here is something a real person typed. The useful question is not “how many” but “what did they want?” — and the groups are sorted to answer that.

  • Questions are ready-made headings. Answer the question in the first sentence under it, plainly, and Google has something it can quote.
  • Comparisons come from people who have nearly decided. A fair comparison page is often the most valuable page a small business can write.
  • Who, where and what for tell you which audiences and places to name. If you serve them, say so on the page, in words they would use.
  • Phrases of four words or more have far less competition. A small site ranks for those long before it ranks for the short head term.

Once you have written the page, run the free audit to check the title, headings and description actually say what you meant them to.

Being straight about this

Why there are no search volumes.

Monthly search volumes come from Google Ads data, resold by the big SEO platforms at a real cost. Free tools that show a volume are either paying for it and making it up elsewhere, or estimating it and not telling you. We would rather show you what we actually have.

What we have is Autocomplete: Google’s own prediction of what people are about to type. It will not tell you a phrase gets 1,300 searches a month. It will tell you the phrase is real, current, and worded the way searchers word it — which, for a small site choosing what to write next, is most of what volume was going to tell you anyway.

If you need volumes, difficulty scores or competitor keyword gaps, those are worth paying for, and we list who to pay.

Questions people ask first

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no email, no trial. There is an hourly limit per visitor so nobody can use it to hammer Google on our behalf.

Why do some results not contain my exact words?

Google sometimes corrects spelling or offers a closely related phrase. We keep those, because they are what people type.

Can I choose another country?

Yes: pick one next to the box. Suggestions differ by country, often a lot, so choose where your customers are.
