Free search result preview
See your page the way searchers see it.
The title and description are the whole advert for your page in search results. Check they fit, and read well, before Google cuts them off mid-word.
Paste a page address above, or type a title and description, and the preview appears here.
Writing a better result
Two lines to earn the click.
- Lead with what they searched for. “Emergency plumber in Leeds” beats “Welcome to Smith & Sons”. Your name can go at the end.
- Every page gets its own. Ten pages with the same title look like one page to Google, and to a searcher.
- The description is a promise. Say what they get and why you: prices, speed, area, guarantees. Google bolds the words that match the search.
- Do not stuff keywords. A title that repeats the same phrase three times is more likely to be rewritten by Google, and less likely to be clicked.
Questions people ask first
Why does Google show a different title from mine?
Google rewrites a large share of titles, usually when it thinks yours does not match the page or the search: too long, stuffed, or the same as other pages. A clear, accurate title that fits is rewritten far less.
Is this exactly what Google will show?
It is close. We measure the text in pixels in Google’s font, at the widths it is commonly cut at, but Google changes its layout without notice and the result also depends on the search and the device.
Where do I change these on my site?
On WordPress, in your SEO plugin’s box under each page (Yoast, Rank Math or similar). On Wix, Squarespace and Shopify, under each page’s SEO settings. The fix library has step-by-step guides for each platform.
